Halloween Hacks 2020

Continue

Return to blog

Halloween 2020 might look a little bit different to previous years. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t still have lots of Halloween fun! From a movie marathon to pumpkin trails, there are lots of socially distanced ways to make Halloween 2020 one to remember.

Here are just some of our favourite spooky activities:

  1. Pumpkin Trails: Trails are being organised across the country replacing the traditional trick or treating.  Choose either a cute or ~spooky~ aesthetic and then fashion your digs appropriately.  Find out about the Great Dorset Pumpkin Trail here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p08sqvq0
  2. A bit of witch crafting: Halloween is a great opportunity to get crafting. How about decorating a Halloween tree, or making your own bunting.
  3. Get inventive with the face paint: Not just for the little one’s, a face painting session is always a winner!
  4. Decorate a face mask:  The ultimate 2020 Halloween activity, with a simple mask and some marker pens you could draw creepy grins to scare or whiskers to become a cat… find lots of ideas here: https://www.parents.com/holiday/halloween/crafts/how-to-make-a-face-mask-for-halloween/
  5. Stir Up a Spooky Cocktail: Fetch the dry ice and grab the vodka —time to make some on-theme drinks. A Halloween mocktail is perfect alternative for all ages. Top tip: Freeze spooky sweets into your ice cubes!
  6. Hit the road: A perfect way to embrace the season is to jump in the car and spot all the houses that have created spooky displays.  With the weather looking frightful this weekend this could be a great alternative to trick or treating.  Or if you are happy to brave the weather, perhaps a fancy-dress bike ride!
  7. Take a hike:  The Walled garden, Moreton have organised a special Halloween trail this week.  Find out more here: https://walledgardenmoreton.co.uk/events/autumn-trail/
  8. Pumpkin carving. It’s just not Halloween without a carved pumpkin! Grab pumpkins and you can either free-hand a design or print out one of the many templates online. Don’t worry if you can’t find a pumpkin, try using other types of squash and gourds for a unique look! Don’t forget after Halloween pumpkins are a tasty treat for wildlife (find out more here: https://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/blog/2019/10/what-to-do-with-pumpkins/).
  9. Movie Marathon: If all else fails why not have a scary movie marathon. There’s certainly no shortage of Halloween movies. From family friendly classics to horror flicks there’s something for everyone. Swap your popcorn for spooky treats and let the movie marathon begin.

Have a very Happy Halloween from everyone at DOMVS!
