Less than four miles drive from the county town of Dorchester, just over five from the beach at Ringstead Bay and less then seven from central Weymouth, Broadmayne is perfectly situated to take full advantage of all Dorset has to offer. The large village is surrounded by beautiful countryside, the south-western corner being just inside an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, so opportunities for walking in and exploring nature abound.
Within the village itself, the thriving community enjoys a variety of amenities including a local store/post office, a popular public house and a village hall hosting all manner of clubs and activities. There is also a recreation ground, outdoor tennis court and children’s play area. Of Broadmayne’s two churches, the Parish Church of St Martin is particularly notable; its tower dates back to the 13th Century. In the late 1800s, the remainder of the building underwent significant restoration at the hands of John Hicks, who was working from drawings created by his apprentice, none other than world-famous Dorset author Thomas Hardy.
